When I was shopping for sofas for my new house, I can't tell you how many websites and showrooms I scoured. It's pretty much the focal point of any living space, helping to set the color scheme and the overall interior design style of the area, so I spent a long time agonizing over them.
"A sofa is the anchor in a room. Essentially, it's the most important furniture piece you'll need in a living room or family room," author, influencer, and furniture designer Farah Merhi tells Insider Picks. "You're not only getting a functional piece of furniture, but it's also a great way to add visual appeal," she explains.
We needed a lot of pieces to fill the multiple living spaces in our home, and while I wanted all of them to look gorgeous, I had to budget accordingly. For one of the more playful spaces, I really wanted a colorful — but inexpensive — Chesterfield sofa. I found a lot of my top contenders at Wayfair since I always had great experiences with its reasonably-priced home goods.

But since Wayfair sells so much, I filtered by the most popular and highly rated products. The general public opinion will usually give me a pretty good idea if an item lives up to its product description. Reviewers often share photos of the delivered goods as well, giving shoppers an idea of what to expect — as many of us are well aware that many online photos can be pretty deceiving.
That's how I found the AllModern Taryn Sofa. It's classic Chesterfield design, made with plush velvet and available in colors like soft millennial blush and rich emerald green, which I ended up choosing. I liked the minimal but tailored look of the sofa with its clean lines and polished details, and the deep jewel tone. It's been an incredibly popular color in the interior design world over the last year, and it matched a jungle mural painted in one of my house's rooms.
Despite not being able to see it in a showroom, I felt pretty safe ordering the Taryn since more than 2,000 people have given it a 5-star rating. Many boasted that it looked even more expensive than in the photos, comparing it to models thousands of dollars more. Most of all, I was crazy about the price tag — just a little over $600 — on the incredibly low-end of my budget.

My experiences ordering from Wayfair brands have always been good, and this was no exception. The couch arrived within a few days after placing my order. I didn't opt for AllModern's full-service package for an extra $119.99, which includes room-of-choice delivery, assembly, and packaging removal, but I don't think it's necessary if you've got a friend or family member nearby to help.
I wasn't able to haul the couch upstairs on my own, due to the fact that it weighs 139 pounds and is large — 37'' H x 88'' W x 37'' D — to be exact, but assembly was easy and took about five minutes. I just removed the bolster pillows and cushions from the plastic wrapping and screwed on the wooden legs without needing extra tools.
I was pleasantly surprised by how great the sofa looked and how soft the velvet fabric was. Because I have children, durability and stain resistance are important, but soft velvet fabric hasn't shown any signs of stains (though getting a dark green color might've helped). One time, my daughter spilled some yogurt on the cushion, but it wiped off easily without leaving any spots.

If you're looking for a super plush sofa to sink into, this might not work for you; I would classify this couch as being on the firm side — which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Super soft sofas tend can look worn out quickly, but the Taryn definitely holds its shape. Six months in, it looks exactly the same as when I took it out of the box.
As for looks, every time I see a similar sofa for quadruple the price, it makes me chuckle. While I obviously can't attest to their quality, the AllModern Taryn seriously looks the same as the Joybird Briar Sofa that starts at $1,999 or the Article Sven that goes for $1,299.
I would buy the AllModern Taryn again without any hesitation. It's a stylish, comfortable, and durable seating option at a price that fits my budget and my house's vibe.
